Ergonomics for the 9-5

Welcome!

This is the OutChasing 5 newsletter.

Each week before your long run Saturday, I send out a quick five which consists of Fuel for Thought, a Quick Win, Inspiration Station, a Pro Tip, and a personal Sign Off from me or the team.

We’re here to silently or loudly cheer you on in your endeavor.

We’re here for you so reach out if you need anything!

Fuel for Thought

Surrounding yourself with positivity will take you places.

Equally surrounding yourself with toxicity will hold you back from the person you are meant to become.

Quick Win

From the free solo rock climber himself.

Many times fear is something we create.

The worst part is this distracts you. It requires energy to worry.

It is easier said than done. For sure.

I choose to believe life happens for you and not to you.

Inspiration Station

You are not alone.

Some days are truly harder than others to keep to your goal.

Pro Tip

Zone 2 should be your go to.

It is the easiest on your body (read lowest chances of injury).

It also provides some of the greatest benefits. Especially to those with limited time to train.

Take a little stress out of your training plan and incorporate more easy workouts.

Round 2 is here!

This past week I spent some time in Utah visiting a friend and we had some conversations has sparked a new interest for me.

We find sitting behind a desk causes some serious issues physically over the long term. Even over a day or week of hunched over the keyboard leads to back or neck issues. Now these may feel short term but over the years this can have drastic impacts on your body’s ability to perform.

We agreed there needs to be greater focus on ergonomic breaks. However, there really isn’t a deep discussion around what those breaks should look like to maximize your time. The general rule of thumb is to take a 5-10 minute break every hour.

But what do you do during those? Walk to get water? Go to a meeting?

There has got to be a better way.

We need to normalize strength training in the office.

More to come but we are excited to explore this area and make it more mainstream.
